There is no crony capitalist in Trump-world like mega-billionaire Carl Icahn, whose business has gotten a huge lift from the president-elect. Icahn supported Trump long before any others on Wall Street, and his reward is the title of “special adviser to the President” on regulatory reform. The job involves recommending regulatory changes and vetting Trump’s cabinet choices –which could benefit many of Icahn’s companies. With his publicly traded holding company and his internal hedge fund both deeply in the red before the election, the role could help bring Icahn out of a three-year slump near the end of his career. Only problem is that the ethics experts are crying foul. Read my New York magazine story for the details.
